A NEW KID ON THE FARM

Mama Goat and the new kid!

The baby goat,(kid) was born January 30, 2009
Hubby was out splitting firewood, and noticed Mama Goat, kept going into the stall, our Hungarian Komondor gaurd dog, kept running her out. Our gaurd dog usually sleeps there during the day. Hubby took our guard dog out and let Mama goat stay. After a while he heard our guard dog, growling. He went to check and Mama Goat had just had the baby. Our guard dog, would not let Moma Goat near the baby.
Hubby
locked our guard dog out of the stall. We waited a while, for we knew the Mama Goat would be stressed. I went in to check on her and the baby. It was a warm afternoon, but the baby was so cold and the first time Mama Goat was having nothing to do
with the baby. I started rubbing the baby in different areas, and the Mama Goat would copy me. I then milked the Mama Goat and gave to the baby, several times. In this small stall it was very hard for me to get down, and hold the baby up to drink. As he was getting stronger. I dryed the baby and went
back to the house and hubby got a nipple and milked the Moma Goat and then the baby started drinking from the Moma Goat.
Hubby went and helped the baby drink until 9:00 pm, around 12 midnight, I went out, our guard dog, was not going to let me in the stall. I finally got her to quit jumping around me. I let the baby drink again, until I was sure he could drink on his own.
Our Hungarian Komondor gaurd dog.
The new kid on the farm, is up and doing great.
We let Mama go out for a little while. The new kid buck( a boy)
started to calling for his Mama. The guard dog took off to the stall, ( she thinks the baby goat is hers) She beat Moma goat to the baby goat. I went out today to take pictures, our guard dog is very protective of the baby. While taking pictures, I had my hair chewed on and my pants, by both the Mama and our guard dog. She will now let me get close to the baby with out trying to stop me.

Now we have to find a name for this new kid on the farm.
These goats are Boer Goats. We gave his daddy, the buck to some friends that need a new bloodline. For 2 years this Mama Goat, had no babies. Thinking she could not have babies, we gave away the buck. Well surprise, we have a little miracle! For the buck was given away in October, the Moma goat had to gotten bred the week we gave the buck to our friends.
I think he is so cute, do you agree?
