Pumpkin Tea With A Friend

Welcome to the 95th Tea Time Tuesday
A Simple Tea Spent With a Friend last year.
I hope you will enjoy seeing it again.
My friend called and said she was 100 miles away coming toward my home.
I was not feeling well, as I usually go try to pick up and clean up before someone comes to visit.
Oh, but not this day, not up for it.
Nearing her arrival time, I thought I would fix us a little Tea, for she had been driving most of the day pulling her new RV, I knew she had not eaten. Her husband is a pilot with the aviation company, that my husband and I use to work for. I was one of his bosses.   Maryann and I met while working and traveling, when Maryann came out to stay with her husband. Out of 12 men I was the only woman, and we worked the southern states, coming home for just a week here and there each year. I use to drive a 40 feet Motor Home, Maryann is now pulling a large RV with a truck. It is hard to drive on small roads.
I wish her so much luck, for I do not think I would like to pull an RV!

As my dining room is now gone, I had to hunt for everything I wanted to use.
I still haven’t found the fall tablecloth I bought months ago! I have hidden it well.
I just started pulling things out, I was going Halloween, as you see the black runner,
but changed it when I could find my dishes. lol
Adding finishing touches to the 3 Tier plate rack.
I used my pumpkin plates, love that I can use different plates on this Tier.
Reese’s Candy, Cinnamon Cake, and Chicken Salad Sandwiches
Added a few fall vines to the tier.  By each leg of the Tier are pumpkin salt and pepper shakers.
I found this pumpkin Teapot and cream and sugar at Ross last year for $8.00, I do love a bargain!
This is the first time I have used it.
Creamer and Sugar
I added a pumpkin plate underneath to catch any drips from the teapot

After setting the table I realized I did not have cups to match, I used a wheat pattern for the teacups
Place Setting
I used little pumpkins for the napkin rings
Here I sit awaiting my friends arrival, I am very tired this day. Yes, I know I look pale, even with a little makeup. Being sick, I almost did not show you any photos of me. lol
My friend Maryann Arrives
Notice in my family room lots of my pictures are down off the walls as I’m trying to make do with some of my dining room in there. Haven’t got it all in place yet.
Sure wish I would have taken off the black scarf, I hadn’t planned to take photos.
I did have two rocking chairs here in front of the wood heater, Maryann loved to sit here with me.
On the right by the French Doors is an old wood box, I made to hold firewood.
My family room is Native American Indian,
The silver chandy is one I have been silver leafing for another room.
Do you notice my family room is a DOG TROT?
A dog trot is usually about 8 feet wide, ours is 15 feet wide x 28 feet. The dog trot was 36 feet long,
we added a wall to make a 7 feet wide porch on the front of the dog trot.
When designing the house floor plan, my husband wanted a dog trot,( a large hallway going from the front to the back of the home, used as a porch to let the southern breeze flow in) Well I comprised with adding French Doors on each end, for the chickens, cats, and dogs be laying in here, I did not want to have to walk outside through the dogtrot to get into the dining room and kitchen.  Instead we made it a family room.
After realizing the room that is 13×16 was just too small for our family gatherings.
The smaller room is now my parlor. Which is still piled with boxes of dishes from my dining room.
My daughter stay is temporary and will be moving out.
Then I will get my dining room back together.
I am telling Maryann about Tasha Tudor Tea, and about Afternoon Tea
We are drinking Tasha Tudor’s Breakfast Tea
Which was great with just sugar, but loved it even more with a wee bit of milk!
The large TV will be finding another room soon!  Hubby has wood stacked close to the house this year.
My husband comes in taking our picture and she tells him I made her use the cloth napkin, for I was prissy. lol
Really she did not want me to have to wash anything, as I have not been feeling well.
We had opened the door for the fire in the wood stove was hot. I said how’s this for prissy?
My Manners Went Out the Door!
I then threw a piece of bread out the door to some of my chickens,
we see just outside the door. lol
Big Red is saying Hey, throw some more. lol
Country Life, and the Love of Afternoon Tea
Only could I do this with a Friend! lol
We both got so tickled for what I had done!
As you can see!
I do love this pumpkin tea set! I’m working on another Tea,
which will not be thrown together as this one was, hopefully!
Maryann and her husband stayed in their RV two nights, here with us.
She said the next morning when she woke, she looked out and seen the smoke coming from the chimney stack. That my home looked like a Thomas Kincaid Cottage, with the arbor and flowers growing along the fence. My home is really a 100 year old Craftsman Bungalow, which we are remodeling,
and will be for a long time.  Everyone jokes if I decide I do not like a wall where it is,
 it gets knocked down. lol
Maryann wanted to take me shopping as I never get to get out much. We first went to Jackson an hour away down the Natchez Trace to eat and shop at Cracker Barrel,(one of my favorite places)! She then asked me where I wanted to go, but I was so tired, I just said home. We had planned to go to some of my other favorite stores. Maybe next time. I showed her how to get back on the Natchez Trace, as the exit we took to come home was just a few miles from the Airport. Maryann decided to take me to see some of the pilots,
I had worked with for five years. When we arrived my husband was there on his motorcycle.
It was so much fun seeing these guys again, we were like family, when working and traveling.
Oh, being around the pilots and the airplanes brought back so many memories.
Four and half years ago, we took a leave of absence from work, thinking we would be gone just 3 months. My Health and Doctor would not let me return to work.
I do miss it all the guys, and work so much!
Oh, but soon we have a new adventure, I will be telling you about!

As you all know, my new adventure with my husband , we bought an old country store/cafe.
I’m at it 16 hours a day, with no time to visit, all on your websites. I miss it so much. After staying home five and half years alone. It is a big change for us. I do not get home until near 10:00 pm and sometimes later.
I only get a few hours at home on Sunday morning. All the other time I’m a sleep or washing clothes.
I am sick, but hoping for life not to end anytime soon. I have lost a lot of weight since these photos were taken. I am trying to help my family with their dream.
I have one dream of making Lady Katherine’s Tea Parlor a real Tea Room.
I have had a few family Tea’s here in the cafe. I hope to have a few public Teas in the cafe soon. I have a huge room, which is as big as the store, and cafe combined. It is my dream to have my Tea Parlor in it by next year. We thought we would be able to remodel it by this winter.
As we are so busy at the store/cafe, it hasn’t been possible.
Should anyone wants to join me for Tea one afternoon let me know.

Halloween Birthday Tea

Welcome to the 94th Tea Time Tuesday
This week was my daughter ,Suzette’s Birthday
We set up a Halloween Tea in the cafe, as we all can’t leave our store/cafe at the same time.
We as a family all run the store.
So wish our other daughter Jennifer, her two children and her husband to be Josh,( whose Birthday is the same day as Suzette’s Birthday) could have been there.

We always have a pumpkin cake for Suzette Birthday, I wasn’t up to making one, and could not find one.
I asked the lady at the bakery if she could take a cookie cake and make it look like a pumpkin. She was so happy how the cake turn out, she started making another one before we left.
Pizza made from our cafe
My witch’s brew pot from Cracker Barrel hold ice and Dr. Pepper
The cream onion dip with a spider on top, I added a crow to the witch, but it fell down in this photo
My pumpkin teas et covered in spiders
I couldn’t find my sugar bowl, still looking. lol

Happy Birthday Suzette
I used my pumpkin to serve potato chips, and the cake also sets on one.

Tea on the farm

Welcome to the 93rd Tea Time Tuesday

Sharing a Tea my granddaughter’s did all by their selves.
They spent the weekend with me, and asked Granna can we have a Tea Party like we used to.
We cleaned the big table,( I bought this summer at the annual garage sale), and we added a rose where the umbrella goes. I said, Yes you sure can, but Granna not feeling well enough to cook for you. They found a cherry pie and split it, and a few crackers.

Brianna and Hannah, notice my rose bush is still blooming
Hannah is being the hostess, this is the first time, I have let them use a real Teapot by their selves.
See the rose they added in the center
Hannah loves pouring the Tea, but while waiting for me to take the picture, she over filled it.
Here you can see the Tea spilled on the table, so glad they didn’t use the lace cloth they love to use. lol

My grandson’s had been out swinging on the tire swing, they wanted to join in with a cup of Tea
Brianna is holding a baby chick
Here she must be thinking my brother, Gage is trying to get my chick. lol
They went out to the chicken coops, to help feed the chickens. With all we have had going on, we haven’t had time to pick up the eggs, So the hens set, and hatched out the eggs in the nest. Not one chick is a silky as in this white hen is.

The chicks are growing fast, their Mother hens are keeping them warm, soon they will go into a larger pen all together with their Mother hens.

Thank you for letting me share a little of my love for the farm and my grandchildren.
Sorry I am up late with my post, I spent all day yesterday at the Doctors, with more appointments this week.

Anniversary Tea

Welcome to the 92nd Tea Time Tuesday
This week I am sharing our 34th Wedding Anniversary Tea Luncheon.
I wanted to do something special for my husband, but working everyday at the store, we have no time.
So I stayed up the night before and packed all the dishes to surprise him with this Luncheon Tea.
In our on cafe we celebrated our 34th Anniversary.

I picked some herbs to garnish, but forgot and left them at home.
My husband’s place setting,
Using my old crystal glasses, plates, and a silver charger.
The flatware has the initials of our last name on them as does the napkin holder
My place setting
The Cafe’s little rolls, also made into chicken salad sandwiches, They were so good!
One of the girls made him a salad, and we used a few rolls for his meal.

Steak just the way he likes it

Birds eye view
My husband was surprised, as I was setting the table, I told him he had to go cook his own steak. lol
Our Cafe’s little rolls made perfect little chicken salad sandwiches, The Crystal dish has apple parfait in it!
The plate is my Early American Prescut Crystal
My daughter, Suzette gave me this silver plated dish for Mother’s Day. I filled it with the Cafe’s Brownies, Cut bite size and covered in Crystallized Sugar, with Cheese Danish in the middle
I just love the pattern on the tea cup, and filled with my favorite Vanilla Cream Tea,
I do love this Tea with sugar cubes and milk.
This Tea set is made of ceramic, has the look of silver. My sister-in-law, Judy gave to me for my Birthday.
I have been saving it for a special occasion.
We have been childhood sweethearts, and best friends
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful husband, that been there for me

Great-Grandmother’s Making Biscuits and a little Tea

Welcome to the 91st Tea Time Tuesday
I have permission from my Granddaughter Hannah’s Aunt to share photo’s of Hannah’s Great Grandmother on her Daddy side of the family making homemade biscuits.
Using an old Dough Bowl, making biscuits by hand
Mixing them just right from memory
Ready to go in the oven on an iron skillet
She made homemade biscuits for her husband everyday, Hannah’s Great-Grandfather

My Granddaughter Hannah is on the right,  my other Granddaughter is on the left,
in the middle is their friend Maggie
They loved dressing up, for Tea
Here I threw a Tea Party together for them in just a few hours
In my Parlor at home.
The table set for Tea

My granddaughter’s love to set the table for Tea, and enjoy having Tea whether it is a cup of Tea and a cookie, or a light afternoon Tea.  I do hope they keep the traditions not only from their Great-Grandmother, but from what I have also taught them. Hannah is so lucky to still have her Great-Grandmother living.

Hopefully one day Hannah will make biscuits for someone special in her life,
as her Great Grandmother once did.

Tea At Anchuca

Welcome to the 90th Tea Time Tuesday
A few weeks ago, we spent the day in Vicksburg, Mississippi with our grandson and oldest daughter.
After eating and visiting a few area we went to the mansion Anchuca, where my daughter will be getting married in November.
We happen on a luncheon the Red Hat Ladies from just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They and one of the owners of Anchuca which means Happy Home in Choctaw Language.  About 30 years ago I bought a house recipe box and wrote the words Anchuca/ Happy Home on it.
My daughter asked if I remember, when she told me she was getting married here at Anchuca.
Of course, I still have the recipe box.
The Red Hat Ladies wanted this photo for a recipe book they are writing. I did not get their address, so if anyone knows these ladies, Please leave me a comment, so I can email the photo’s on to them.
The dining room where my daughter’s reception will be held, as it is a small family wedding.
I just love all the doors, notice the brick floors in the photos
This table is set ready for a Tea Luncheon
As you enter the dining room, this is the first room you see, the ladies there gave me permission to take photos. Yes, Gage was a little bored here, lol until we went outside, where there are fish in the fountian
All my life I have longed for one of these chairs!! At the wedding I think I’ll have my photo taken in it!
The wedding will be held in the next photos, all this will be removed and placed with chairs
The guest will arrive here at the back of the mansion.

Anchuca Mansion front of the mansion

Here is where the bride and groom will stand.

Look Mama!

My daughter showing me what she wants for her wedding.
The Red Hat Ladies just out of Baton Rouge, La now will tour the grounds of Anchuca

A DAY IN THE COUNTRY

Welcome to the 89th Tea Time Tuesday
Grandparents Day is a special day, time taken out just for our little grandchildren.
Last week I shared our day in Vicksburg, Mississippi with one of our grandson’s.
We live in the country, a farming community, when we first moved here, we showed our daughter’s the school they would attend. After living in the city with their old school a block away.
Their new school had cows in a pasture beside it, cotton fields in front, and on the side is where the school’s FFA  class has goats, donkey, and grapevines. A big change from what they were use to.
Now my grandchildren attend the same school.
Now for the day we spent with two of our grandchildren.

In Hannah’s class I read a book to her and another child whose grandparents couldn’t come.
Hannah’s teacher was so nice to let us sit on the love seat, I would have had trouble sitting in the small chairs. lol
Granpappy went to Creighton class to spend time with him
After having refreshments in the class we checked them out and went over to the FFA
  muscadine and scupadine field

Off to see the donkey, as we heard him calling

The donkey helps guard the goats, there was many more goats, but we only got a few in the photo’s.

Hannah has a bag of scupadine we picked.

We went back over to the field and picked more of the fruit.
Hannah found a bird nest inside.

After leaving, we dropped off a donations to the school little house for the fruit we picked. Even though it says to pay so much a gallon, we only picked a small bag, we left donation for a gallon.
The children had fun, even though we have vines at home and animals.
I know this was not a Tea but I wanted to share the few wonderful hours we had with our grandchildren.
Next week I will show you Anchuca and a Tea. I happen on as it was just finished the day we spent in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

A Day in Vicksburg for Grandparents Day

Welcome to the 86th Tea Time Tuesday

I want to share with you today, we had in Vicksburg, Mississippi for Grandparent’s Day.
The school was only having lunch, no program, as the seat was tiny and elbow to elbow.
We decided to spend our time with our grandson alone, taking him
to another place to eat beside where a museum of :
The Mississippi  Tug Boat is in process of being built.
My husband and grandson Gage
Across the street is Rusty’s River Front Grill, where we ate
Photos hang on the wall of what Vicksburg use to look like many years ago
I loved this photo with the women in their finery!
The old Mississippi River Bridge
Gage loved the train and boat
Photo of the Mississippi River frozen
Our daughter Jennifer surprised us, and joined us for lunch when she found out where we went
Jennifer and my husband had the oyster poorboy
Gage had the grouper fish, from Destin, FL
Gage and decided to leave Terry and Jennifer eating and took a walk around the grounds and over to the boat.
I loved the sun, and the tile tables
Granna and Gage off to see the boat again

 Mama, and Granpappy joined us
One last look at Rusty’s
We drove down to the old  Rail Road Station, which is being redone,
after the 1991 flood of the Mississippi River

You can still see water mark on the bricks where it flooded

As my leg is still swollen, I sat in the truck, while they all went down to see the Mississippi River from the banks. Gage says this was much better than staying at school and eating!
We drove one more trip to Anchuca to see the Mansion where my daughter is getting married,
I will show it soon.

A Lovely Tea for Hazel in a B B

Welcome to the 85th Tea Time Tuesday
This week my camera will not load on to my computer. I had some new things to share with you, hopefully soon, I will get this fixed!!

Please enjoy a Tea I had with my lovely friend.

I shall be sharing one of my Dearest Friends Tea
 Hazel’s 90th Birthday
On April 3, I was honored to attend a lovely Tea for my friend Hazel
at Heart’s Content Bed and Breakfast in Canton, Mississippi

Now many of you might know, Canton has two huge Flea Markets every May and October
People come all over to attend this wonderful Flea Market
I am just 30 minutes away! Lucky me!
A lovely table of savories, and sweets
Heart’s Content Bed and Breakfast
Is in a lovely grand old home

As You walk into the front doors the view of the stair case is breathe taking
The lovely tin ceiling
A register to sign in, a lovely photo of Hazel from her college photo album
A grapevine basket, in lieu of gifts, for a memory, or story about Hazel, shall be full by the end of the day, with another basket in waiting
Hazel made all the lovely grapevine baskets you shall see
Some of the flowers picked from her garden
the grapevine baskets are filled with
I am a proud owner of one of her baskets
Below the staircase
A lovely refreshing container of lemon water
Just before I go into the parlor to greet my lovely friend
I took a snapshot of one of the bedrooms
The bed, and sofa are so beautiful
Notice the pattern of the tin ceiling here
My Dear Friend, Hazel and Lady Katherine
Hazel was so happy as I to see her
for we both have been through surgeries, and not able to have Tea Together
Hazel told my husband she would love him forever for bringing me
to her Tea
He told her I would have walked if he had not brought me
Hazel is a true treasure in my life
She been at every family event, and when I was/working traveling
she would be there for the events I could not
Hazel has taught me many things in my life, one was her love of Afternoon Tea
I love you dearly, Hazel
Happy 90th Birthday
View of the dining room through the doorway is the staircase
The wallpaper on the dining room wall is covered in blue birds
Everyone knows I adore bluebirds

That is my husband in front of the lovely mantel with his arm crossed
He looks so thrilled, lol
The chandelier  is so lovely
This room, and all the other rooms were so full of people, you had to squeeze by
The cakes look wonderful
Oh, the dark chocolate cake was divine, the icing did not taste like icing
It was so wonderful

The silver trays were so lovely on the table
All the silverware was on one large silver tray
In front of the flowers, I was told is a torte, a family member made
At first I thought it was cream cheese, I have no idea what it was made of
How wonderful it was with the crackers

Open faced cucumber sandwiches with cream cheese spread on the circles of  white bread

These sandwiches of turkey, ham, cheese and mustard spread
were wonderful, for the bread is a yeast bread cut into squares

 A flavored coffee setting
My husband poured a glass cup of it
It was very light in color, he said:
Oh, this is hot tea! He handed me the cup I took a sip,
and said No, it your coffee!
I do drink a little coffee with lots of milk and chocolate
But I do love my TEA!

Lovely fresh flower centerpiece
A lovely crystal bowl of toasted pecans

A tray of tomato, bacon chips, and mayonnaise on circles of white bread

The lovely silver punch bowl held Frozen Mint Tea
Yes, it is so wonderful,
for Hazel loves to serve it on a hot summers day
while entertaining her guest in her garden

To make the Frozen Mint Tea
This is usually the only time that I use tea bags:
Use fresh tap water, never distilled water,  use cold water, never hot

Use one cup of fresh spearmint leaves and two family size tea bags
In a pan, your choice, I use enamel
Bring to a rolling boil, cover and steep for five minutes at least.
Add fresh cold tap water to your gallon pitcher
Add 1 and half cups of sugar
Stir until sugar dissolves
Strain out the spearmint, and remove the two tea bag from your pan
Add your steeped tea liquor to the pitcher and finish filling with tap water.
After  the Mint Tea cools, you can fill old milk plastic milk jugs and freeze
To serve cut open the top of the milk jug, and add to your punch bowl
A view of the table from the mantel side
You, can see the pink heart mints on a tray
Yes, we all reached for the Frozen Tea!

My wonderful husband, Terry went out to the porch to eat, where I joined him
As we sat at the tables that lined the porch,
other guest begin to come out to the porch to sit
for there was not even standing room inside
Here is my place setting, You can see the tea is frozen

As we said our goodbye to Hazel and her lovely Afternoon Tea
Can you see me on the center front, a waiting my carriage? I mean my husband to pick me up.

As we drive away one last look at the lovely home from the the back of the house,
with a wonderful pond and waterfall in an iron fence
Today I wish so much I could have Tea with Hazel again!
